Defensive End

1. Ziggy Ansah
2. Devin Taylor

Ziggy Ansah is a star in the making but the Lions have questions at defensive end aside from him. Devin Taylor, a former fourth-round pick, improved last season and has earned the right to enter training camp as the starter opposite Ansah.

What happens after those two is up for grabs, whether we’re talking about the normal rotation or who steps in in case of injury.

Wallace Gilberry was signed to add a veteran presence to the group and Anthony Zettel was added to the mix as a late-round draft pick, although he could see some time inside in passing situations. Brandon Copeland is also in the mix as he transitions from outside linebacker to defensive end.

The signing of Quanterus Smith the week before the Lions report to camp is an indication the team may not be set on their current group.

Ansah and Taylor are the only holdovers from the top-four defensive end rotation a year ago and are safe as the starters heading into training camp with no upgrades added to the roster in the offseason.
