Kicker

1. Matt Prater
2. Devon Bell

Punter

1. Sam Martin
2. Devon Bell

Matt Prater is set at kicker and Sam Martin is set at punter but the Lions will have one more camp bodies to ease the workload. Devon Bell is currently the only kicker/punter on the roster and he has experience doing both from his time at Mississippi State.

Long Snapper

1. Jimmy Landes
2. Don Muhlbach

It’s not often that the long snapper is a position battle to watch during training camp but that will be the case for the Lions. A Lion since 2004, Don Muhlbach has been rock solid as the team’s long snapper and hasn’t shown any signs of a diminishing skill set.

Even so, new general manager Bob Quinn used a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to bring in Jimmy Landes to compete for Muhlbach’s job. With only a handful of long snappers ever drafted, it stands to figure that Landes has the inside track to winning the roster spot over Muhlbach.

Muhlbach won’t give up his job easily but he may have to outperform Landes as the Lions may choose to go with the younger, cheaper player in the case of a tie.
