Tight End

1. Eric Ebron
2. Brandon Pettigrew

All eyes will be on Eric Ebron this season as much is expected from the former top-ten pick in his third season. He may never live up to the pick, especially in terms of being selected ahead of Aaron Donald, but Ebron can’t be blamed for the former front office’s mistake and now it’s up to him to make the most of his opportunities to be the best he can be.

Ebron took a nice statistical jump from year one to year two, going from 25 catches for 248 yards and one touchdown to 47 catches for 537 yards and five touchdowns.

What happens in the depth chart behind Ebron is open for debate. Brandon Pettigrew is the incumbent but he’s coming off the second major knee injury of his NFL career and carries a cap figure that exceeds his role in the offense. Even so, Pettigrew got a mention from Bob Quinn during an appearance on the Jim Rome Show in a list of players who will be counted on to chip in to fill the void left by Calvin Johnson’s retirement.

I’ll give Pettigew the nod as the number two tight end for now but it wouldn’t be surprising if Cole Wick, Matthew Mulligan or even someone not currently on the roster supplants Pettigrew.
