Detroit Tigers News: Injured Players on Path to Recovery
By Matt Snyder
The Detroit Tigers are hoping to get a quartet of injured players back on to the active roster is the coming weeks.
The Detroit Tigers are apparently set on standing pat at the trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean they’re hoping their roster will stay as it is into August and September.
“Getting [injured player] back is our trade deadline acquisition” is a tired trope — typically an excuse front offices use for not doing anything — but it feels close to true for the Tigers right now who currently have four players sidelined due to injury.
Cameron Maybin is being held out until Friday after suffering a dislocated rib. Daniel Norris will make another rehab start (this time for AA Erie) and Jordan Zimmermann will also make another rehab start to build his pitch count.
J.D. Martinez‘s rehab schedule will probably be more of the extended variety, but he played his first minor league game last night in AAA. Martinez served as the DH and had one hit in five at-bats.
They’ll need all four players back and healthy if they’re truly going to make a stretch run at the postseason this season.

The Detroit Tigers are doing well to hang in the race with a roster marred by injury, but it doesn’t feel like they can hang in the race much longer without these players reinforcing their roster, particularly on the pitching side.
