Michigan football’s dynamic duo of Jabrill Peppers and Jourdan Lewis could be two-way stars for the Wolverines this season, but neither have been practicing with the offense yet.

Jabrill Peppers participated on offense, defense, and special teams last year for the Michigan football team. This year Jourdan Lewis has expressed interest in playing some offense as well.

But, as of yet, neither player has worked on that side of the ball in practice. Nick Bumgardner of MLive has the story.

"“Jabrill’s an unbelievable football player who can do a lot of different things and you love to have him on offense. As we get closer to the first game here, we’ll start putting things together,” Drevno explained. “Jourdan Lewis, we haven’t seen him (yet either). But we’d love to see him, (too). We’re just working through things right now and then we’ll get to that.”"

The fact the neither has worked with the offense doesn’t mean that they won’t eventually. We’re still fairly early into the practice season and Lewis and Peppers need to get defensive reps under their belt with new defensive coordinator Don Brown in the fold.

Both Lewis and Peppers will be primarily defensive players and need to make sure they have their assignments and responsibilities locked down in the new system before moving to learn offensive sets as well.

We’ll probably see both (Peppers, at the very least) get some work in with the offense as we lead up to games. Perhaps not until we’re partially through the season, even.

Things are more stable on the offensive end, but the Wolverines are working in a new quarterback. The winner of the battle between Wilton Speight and John O’Korn will need reps with the first team offense before working in personnel groups that are more of the gadget variety.

Peppers didn’t see an offensive touches until the Michigan State game on October 17 last season. We could see a similar schedule this year. Michigan could use the early September games to solidify their base packages and open the playbook once conference games begin.
