Maryland Terrapins

November 5, Maryland at Michigan, TBA

New head coach D.J. Durkin was Michigan’s defensive coordinator last season. He has stated that he plans on building this team through defense and special teams, while making fewer mistakes on offense. His offense will operate a high-speed option attack and his defense will run a 3-4 scheme.

The Terrapins will rely on fifth-year senior quarterback Perry Hills to execute their option offense. While Wes Brown and a handful of other talented running backs will compete for touches. Sophomore wide receiver D.J. Moore seems is solid but needs Hills to be able to get him the ball.

Senior cornerback William Likely is an All-Big Ten corner and All-American returner. His 18.2 yards per punt return was second in the nation last year. Consequently, he will be trouble for any punters who test him.

Linebacker Jermaine Carter is coming off a team leading 103 tackles. He will be asked to carry this defense from the middle.  Another name to watch is edge rusher Jessie Aniebonam who will be asked to play a hybrid role.

Prediction:

As long as they keep the ball out of Will Likely’s hands, Michigan should be in good shape here. Maryland could surprise people this season, but Harbaugh will have his team ready to out duel his protégé.

Michigan wins (9-0, 6-0)
