Summary

Michigan State will play in a lot of losable games this year, but Mark Dantonio’s teams normally find ways to avoid disastrous losses (Nebraska notwithstanding) and but themselves in a position to be competitive in the Big Ten.

I see the Spartans winning 11 games despite a tough schedule. If Ohio State runs the table the Spartans are looking at a possible New Year’s Six bowl game, although with Michigan and Ohio State playing each other in the final week of the season and Michigan playing Iowa as well this season, a one-loss Big Ten champion is not out of the question.

Having the most important games of the Big Ten schedule at home should help, and if the Spartans avoid the trap games and get a bit lucky in the big games they could run the table, win the Big Ten and end up in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. However, that is probably asking a lot of Lady Luck, who rarely smiles on the same program two years in a row.
