2. The Lions are deep at defensive tackle.

The Lions lack star power at defensive tackle, but there are a lot of good football players on the roster at the position. Second-round draft pick A’Shawn Robinson is trending to be the number three tackle on the depth chart behind solid starter Haloti Ngata and Tyrunn Walker, who is returning from an injury suffered in 2015.

The battle among the reserves has been intense, as Stefan Charles, Kerry Hyder, Caraun Reid, Khyri Thornton, Gabe Wright and rookie Anthony Zettel are all in the race to make the team. Each one of them has made plays in the preseason, especially in the final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

Depending on how many the Lions keep at other positions, it’s hard to see the team keeping more than five, maybe six, of these players, which means that a couple of guys will have to be let go, potentially to be claimed on the waiver wire. No matter whom the Lions choose to let go, they will have solid depth on the interior defensive line.
