NFL Power Rankings Week 2: New England Patriots Take Top Spot
By Zac Snyder
With the Carolina Panthers falling in a rematch against the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots take over on top of the DJC NFL Power Rankings.
Week one of the 2016 NFL season is in the books and it didn’t disappoint. 11 of 16 games were decided by seven points or less, giving NFL fans the most competitive and compelling opening weekend in recent memory, if not in all of NFL history.
Detroit Lions fans certainly got a good look at that with high drama playing out in the fourth quarter against the Indianapolis Colts. The underdog Lions looked to have thrown a game they once led 21-3 away but another showing of Matthew Stafford heroics and a redemptive kick from Matt Prater sent the Lions home winners.
The much anticipated Thursday kickoff featuring a Super Bowl rematch between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos lived up to expecations, seeing the Broncos come out on top again despite starting Trevor Siemian at quarterback for the first time.
Sunday night’s meeting of Super Bowl hopefuls Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots was equally compelling with Jimm Garoppolo performing admirably in place of the suspended Tom Brady. In stead of merely surviving Brady’s four-game suspension, Garoppolo’s play means the Patriots can dream big instead of worrying about having to dig out of a hole when Brady returns.
Elsewhere the Rams were putrid in their official return as the Los Angeles Rams, Andrew Luck will have the Indianapolis Colts offense in good shape but the defense is another story, the Kansas City Chiefs were not so impressive in falling well behind the San Diego Chargers but very impressive in coming all the way back to win and the chic breakout pick Oakland Raiders could be a lot of fun if Jack Del Rio keeps up his high risk, high reward decision making.
Here is where the Detroit Jock City NFL Power Rankings stand for week two.
