The Detroit Red Wings continued their winning ways on Saturday by beating the San Jose Sharks 3-0. That was the fourth win in a row for the Red Wings.

After a rough first two games, the Detroit Red Wings have won four straight games. They beat the defending Western Conference champions San Jose Sharks on Saturday 3-0.

Gustav Nyquist scored a pair of goals and Andreas Athanasiou added a goal. Jimmy Howard once again was outstanding as he stopped all 30 of the Sharks shots.

Nyquist and Howard seem to be rebounding after a rough season last year. If Nyquist and Tomas Tatar can have rebound seasons that would be big for the Red Wings.

Jimmy Howard having a big season could be even bigger for this team. Not only will it give the Red Wings a one two punch in net but it could also lead to the Red Wings making a trade.

The Los Angeles Kings, for example, need a starter badly as Jonathan Quick is out for three months. A trade not only could fetch a much needed defenseman but it could help the Red Wings unload Howard’s contract.

The Carolina Hurricanes come to town tonight losing four of their first five games. The Hurricanes are finishing up a long road trip which could benefit the Red Wings as their first six have been on the road.

More from Detroit Jock City

As of this writing, no starting goalie has been announced yet but I would think Petr Mrazek will start. While Howard has been outstanding in the two games he’s played, Mrazek is clearly the future of this team and deserves to start until Howard really outplays him.

The Red Wings having two very good goalies is a lot better than the Hurricanes goaltending situation. Both Cam Ward and Eddie Lack have almost a goals against average of four and just over a .850 save percentage. Neither of which is good.

No matter who starts tonight, the Red Wings should win and win comfortably. The Hurricanes being on a long road trip and their struggling goaltenders make this a game the Red Wings should win and I think will win.
