The Detroit Pistons tip off their 2016-2017 regular season tonight on the road as they take on the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre.

Year three of the Stan Van Gundy era of Detroit Pistons basketball tips off tonight with the Pistons on the road to take on the Toronto Raptors.

The Pistons took a step forward last season by returning to the playoffs, where they were swept away by the eventual NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers. That series was closer than the four games to none result might look, giving optimism that the still young Pistons can make another big step this season.

A young core group of players returns and the overall depth of the roster was improved in free agency. Point guard Ish Smith and forward Jon Leuer will play key roles for the Pistons off the bench as newcomers while the Pistons look to get even more from returning players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andre Drummond.

The team will have some early adversity to deal with with starting point guard Reggie Jackson missing at least the first month of the season recovering from a treatment to his ailing left knee. The Pistons’ shrewd front office was able to snag veteran point guard Beno Udrih from the waiver wire to help fill the void.

There is no easing into the season with a road game against the Raptors as the first game out of the gate. Last year’s number two seed in the East, the Raptors finished just one game back of the Cavaliers with a 56-26 record. They will once again be a team to be reckoned with this season.

Here is all the important info you need for today’s game as the Pistons get a good early-season test.
