The Detroit Red Wings try to snap a four game losing streak tonight as they face the surprising Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers lead the Pacific with 17 points.

The Detroit Red Wings all of a sudden find themselves on a four-game losing streak. Just a little over a week ago the Red Wings had a six game winning streak and were riding high. Now they’re on a four game losing streak and the most unsettling of those was Friday night against the Jets.

This was the first game all season that ticked me off. The Red Wings blew a third period lead AGAIN. Not only that but they blew THREE leads. As if that wasn’t enough, unlike Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia, this game didn’t go to overtime.

The Jets ended up scoring four third period goals and won 5-3. This was an alarming game because with the Red Wings being a borderline playoff team as it is, that was four points that they should’ve had but only got one single point out of it.

Once again defense has been an issue and I hope Ken Holland has been watching. Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard can only do so much. Even Niklas Kronwall coming back didn’t help.

Kronwall should improve as he plays more but that doesn’t fully solve the problem. I really hope Holland’s answer for the defensive issues isn’t “Kronwall is our addition” because the Red Wings will be in big trouble if that’s what they expect.

The Red Wings have to find that killer instinct that’s been lacking for a couple seasons and actually put teams away.

The surprise of the NHL has to be the Edmonton Oilers. They lead the Pacific Division and are coming off a win in Brooklyn last night against the Islanders. Once again the Red Wings will welcome a tired team to the Joe. They have to start taking advantage of them. Here is all the important information for tonight’s game:

More from Detroit Jock City

Jimmy Howard is getting the start today and it’s possible with a couple more good showings that we could have a goalie controversy. The Red Wings need this one badly.
