The #13 Michigan State Spartans seek their first win of the new men’s basketball season as they take on #2 Kentucky at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

The #13 Michigan State Spartans will look to avoid an 0-2 start as they take on the #2 Kentucky Wildcats at the State Farm Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

More from Detroit Jock City

The Spartans opened their season with a 65-63 loss to the #10 Arizona Wildcats at the Armed Forces Classic in Honolulu on Friday, Arizona scoring the winning layup with 1.9 seconds remaining. Freshman Miles Bridges led Michigan State with 21 points and looks like he will be the centerpiece of a Spartans’ roster that prominently features four freshmen, although junior Lourawls Nairn and sophomores Matt McQuaid and Kenny Goins each started and played at least 25 minutes in Friday’s loss.

The Kentucky Wildcats are also very young and extremely talented, as is the norm under head coach John Calipari, as they look to improve off of last year’s second-round NCAA Tournament exit. Led by sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe, the Wildcats’ roster boasts three freshmen, Edrice Adebayo, De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, who are ranked in among the nation’s top 10 freshmen by ESPN as well as two others ranked in the top 25.

Kentucky averaged 90 points in their first two outings, wins over Stephen F. Austin and Canisius, and shot over 50% from the floor, but the matchup with the Spartans is the first of five against current top-25 opponents on the Wildcats’ schedule.
