Michigan vs. Ohio State

The Big Ten was unofficially the “Big Two and Little Eight” for a number of years as the Michigan-Ohio State game at the end of the season often had major conference championship implications. The two have combined to win or share 77 conference championships. The rest of the conference combined can claim 95.

College football has increasingly become a game of parity but Michigan and Ohio State remain powerhouse figures. That’s especially true with Jim Harbaugh revitalizing the Wolverines program. Who knows if we’ll ever see something on par with the “Ten Year War” in this series, but Harbaugh’s Wolverines taking on Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes has fans remembering the days of Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes.

It will take some more Michigan wins to really get things fired back up now that Ohio State has lost just once in the last twelve meetings. This season would be an awfully good time to start.

You can bet Ohio State fans don’t take any less pleasure in those wins just because Michigan went through some lean years under Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke. That’s the thing about an intense rivalry – there is just as much joy in kicking an opponent who is down.
