The Detroit Red Wings look to rebound tonight as they travel to our nations capital to face the Washington Capitals. The Red Wings have lost two straight.

The Detroit Red Wings lost a tough one on Tuesday night to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Red Wings were down 2-0 and 3-1 and came back to tie the game at three.

The Lightning scored two goals early in the first. Nikita Kucherov scored the first goal of the game and Steven Stamkos scored just three minutes later to make it 2-0.

Stamkos would leave the game with a knee injury midway thru the first. Frans Nielsen got the Red Wings on the board with a goal late in the 1st period. Neither team would score in the second, but the Lightning would score two minutes into the third to add to their lead.

The Red Wings would fight back though. Ryan Sproul scored his first career goal and then Henrik Zetterberg scored two minutes later to tie the game on a beautiful pass from Anthony Mantha.

But sadly the Red Wings gave up a last minute goal AGAIN, as Nikita Kucherov scored again adding to his Red Wing killer resume. The Lightning ended up winning 4-3 and kept the Red Wings from getting a point.

Tuesday’s game showed that it’s time for Ken Holland and Jeff Blashill to finally give the young guys the keys to the franchise. Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi and Ryan Sproul have showed that they have the talent to be up here full-time.

The Red Wings also miss Thomas Vanek. Vanek was on fire for the Red Wings as he had four goals and eight points in seven games. Since Vanek has been out, the Red Wings are 3-6-1. Good news though, Vanek is on schedule to play Sunday against the Calgary Flames. The Red Wings desperately need him back.

The Red Wings head to Washington D.C to face Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Detroit desperately needs to string some wins together and get some needed points.

More from Detroit Jock City

The Red Wings finally got their power play going on Tuesday night as they scored twice on four power plays. The Red Wings have to get their special teams going as they are 15th in the NHL on the power play and 27th in the NHL on the penalty kill.

If the Red Wings can get the special teams going and finally let Mantha, Bertuzzi and the other young guys have the keys to the team, the Red Wings can be pretty good.

Bertuzzi is back in the lineup and Jimmy Howard is getting the start tonight so hopefully the Red Wings can get back to their winning ways.
