The Detroit Red Wings look to end a three game losing streak tonight as the Calgary Flames come to town. The Red Wings welcome back Thomas Vanek tonight.

The Detroit Red Wings finally get something good tonight. Thomas Vanek returns to the lineup for the first time since October 25th.

With Vanek, the Red Wings were 5-2 and without him the Red Wings were 3-8. Vanek was playing so well when he got hurt. He had four goals and eight points in seven games.

These 11 games without Vanek showed how much the Red Wings needed him. The Red Wings haven’t played poorly for the most part this season, unfortunately their opponents have gotten the timely goals lately and the Red Wings haven’t.

Just look at the last two games. The Lightning scored with just over a minute left in regulation to beat Detroit and Washington on Friday night scored with under five minutes left in the game.

Jay Beagle scored the only goal of the game but the Red Wings didn’t play poorly…..except for their power play.

Tonight the Red Wings welcome the Calgary Flames to the Joe. The Flames, like the Red Wings are struggling.

In the last 10 games, the Flames are 3-7 and the Red Wings are 2-7-1. On paper you would think this game bodes well for the Red Wings.

Not only getting Vanek back but the Flames special teams are awful. Their power play is dead last and their penalty kill is 29th. The Flames also are tied for the worst goal differential in the NHL with a minus 19.

Here is all the important information for tonight’s game:

More from Detroit Jock City

The Red Wings need more than Vanek tonight but having Vanek and playing the Flames should help this team break their slump.

Jimmy Howard is expected to start tonight. If he does start tonight that would make it six of the last seven games that he has started and he has outplayed Petr Mrazek.
