The #13 Michigan State Spartans will look to win their second straight at home as they host the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Sunday.

The #13 Michigan State Spartans (1-2) will be at home on Sunday night as they host the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast (1-2) in their Battle 4 Atlantis campus game ahead of this week’s Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas.

Florida Gulf Coast emerged from a moderately successful regular season in 2015-16 to win the Atlantic Sun Tournament and defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in the First Four before losing to North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Eagles opened the season on Veteran’s Day with an 80-59 loss to Florida. They got their first win on Wednesday, an 85-72 victory over Texas-Arlington after trailing 44-31 at halftime, and lost to 81-72 to Baylor on Friday.

The Eagles are built to shoot the ball from outside, having shot 44% from beyond the arc in their first three games. They are led by junior guard Brandon Goodwin, who has averaged 20 points per game on 55% field goal shooting and has shot 46.2% from the three-point line so far this season. They have some interior presence in senior Demetrius Morant, but lack depth and height in the paint and opponents have shot 72.3% inside the arc in their first three games.

Michigan State is coming off a 100-53 rout of Mississippi Valley State on Friday, in which freshman Miles Bridges scored 24 points, including 21 in the first half. The Spartans have a great deal of young depth, as nine players, including four freshmen and two sophomores, average double-digit minutes.

Despite its depth and high potential of its offense, Michigan State still has much to work on. The Spartans have shot horribly from the free-throw line, only making 50% of their free throws, and have committed 17.3 turnovers per game in their first three games. They are, however, rebounding the ball well, averaging 41.3 rebounds per game, including 12.3 offensive boards.

The Spartans may be without freshman Josh Langford, who injured his hamstring during Friday’s game and whose status for Sunday is yet to be announced.
