The Detroit Lions never make it easy on themselves. Even with the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in town, that was the case once again on Sunday. The Lions’ week 11 game against the Jaguars should have been an opportunity to quickly take care of business before facing the short week to host the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving Day.

Losers of four in a row coming in, it had been even longer since the Jaguars defense forced a turnover. The Jags’ last five opponents have had turnover-free games but that streak came to an end as the Jags presented a bigger challenge to the Lions than expected. This was never going to be a game that would allow the Lions to announce themselves as sure contenders but it certainly could have labeled them pretenders.

The worst was avoided thanks to more fourth quarter heroics (and some Jaguar bone-headedness), but it remains concerning that the Lions and 0-11 Browns are the only teams to train in the fourth quarter of every game this season.

Just how good these Lions are is up for debate but more important than subjective labels is the fact that the Lions are 6-4 and remain in first place in the NFC North. Here is what is being said about the Lions’ win over the Jaguars.
