Relief Pitchers: Mike Henneman, Todd Jones

Mike Henneman‘s best season may have been his rookie year of 1987 but he was a steady presence at the back end of the Tigers bullpen in the 90s. His 117 saves were the most of any Tigers reliever in the decade and Henneman actually saw his strikeout rates rise during the 90s.

His 6.6 WAR according to Fangraphs is the fourth-highest total for any Tigers pitcher in the decade and the highest for Tigers relievers by more than 2.5 wins.

Todd Jones experienced more team success in his second stint with the Tigers from 2006-2008 but he was statistically better in his first stint from 1996-2000. Jones wasn’t much of a strikeout pitcher the second time around but he averaged a strikeout per inning in his first season with the Tigers. He followed that up with K/9 averages of 8.1 and 8.68 in 1998 and 1999. Jones’ 86 saves in the 1990s is second only to Henneman.
