The Spartans took care of business against St. John’s in their quarterfinal on Wednesday, led by an inspiring performance from junior Bahamian native Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn, who scored 13 points and dished out four assists in front of his family and hometown crowd to spur Michigan State to a 73-62 win over the Red Flash.
Miles Bridges was excellent once again on Wednesday and still leads Michigan State in scoring and rebounding after picking up a first-half double-double on his way to 22 points and 15 rebounds. Eron Harris scored in double-digits for the third game in a row with 14.
Baylor comes in 4-0, including a 66-49 upset win over then-#4 Oregon and an 81-72 win over the Florida Gulf Coast team that nearly upset the Spartans on Sunday. They defeated Virginia Commonwealth in their Battle 4 Atlantis quarterfinal 71-63 on Wednesday to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Bears have a deep and athletic roster, led by three double-digit scorers in Manu Lecomte, Jonathan Motley and Al Freeman. Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. leads Baylor with over eight rebounds per game while also scoring nine points per game. The Bears have plenty of height in the paint, Motley standing 6’10” and Lual-Acuil 7’0″, and have out-rebounded each of their opponents so far this season.
