Detroit Lions News: Logan Thomas Experiment Lasts One Day
By Zac Snyder
Detroit Lions news takes a look at the Logan Thomas experiment, which was over as quickly as it began after he was signed by the Buffalo Bills.
The Detroit Lions made one of the more intriguing practice squad signings on Monday, inking former Cardinals/Dolphins/Giants quarterback Logan Thomas as a tight end. The 6-6, 248 pound Thomas posted a nearly identical 40-yard dash time as Eric Ebron at the 2014 NFL Combine and was a top performer in a number of individual drills.
Accuracy issues prevented him from making a mark at quarterback but the size and athleticism is still intriguing. And it’s not like a move to tight end was foreign to Thomas. He was one of the nation’s top tight end recruits when he went to Virginia Tech. It turns out the Lions weren’t the only team intrigued, as the Buffalo Bills signed Thomas from the Lions practice squad to their active roster on Tuesday.
The Lions were able to avoid losing quarterback Jack Rudock in a similar manner when they signed him to their active roster when Rudock was receiving interest from other teams. Either the Lions chose not to do the same with Thomas or didn’t have the chance.
Linebacker Nick Chubb, who was released from the practice squad to make room for Thomas, has been re-signed. Chubb originally signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent this year but was released from their practice squad in September. He was signed to the Lions’ practice squad in mid-October and returns with a spot opening up by virtue of Thomas’s departure.
