Dino Ciccarelli

Dino Ciccarelli never won a cup with the Detroit Red Wings, but he sure made an impact during his four year stint.  He is likely most known amongst Red Wings fans for his famous quote “I can’t believe I shook that freaking guy’s hand” in reference to Claude Lemieux, after Lemieux had committed one of the dirtiest hits in history against Red Wing Kris Draper.  Dino was an all around great teammate, and was one of the most effective agitators in the league. Yet he was also much more than that.

Ciccarelli is the ultimate garbage man. His fearlessness and willingness to park in front of the net led to many “garbage goals” in his career. Deflections, rebound put ins, and tip ins were Dino’s bread and butter. Dino accumulated 240 point and 107 goals in 253 games over four seasons with the Wings. Dino’s greatest season as a Red Wing was in 92-93. That year saw Ciccarelli rack up an impressive 41 goals, along with 97 points.

Unfortunately for Dino, he would find himself on the way out of Detroit after the 95-96 season; just one year before the Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.  He is widely regarded as being one of the greatest hockey players to have never won a Stanley Cup.
