Pac-12: Colorado over Washington

This game will probably have the biggest impact on Michigan’s chances. More than any other result, they need the Colorado Buffaloes to beat the Washington Huskies in the Pac-12 championship game (Friday at 9:00 p.m. on FOX).

This game would serve two purpose for the Wolverines. Firstly, it would be a knock on Washington, the team directly ahead of them, and it would provide a common opponent data point between the two teams. Michigan beat Colorado 45-28 in Ann Arbor back in September.

Secondly, it would give the Wolverines a win over a power conference champion. Two conference champions, in fact, because Michigan has beaten both Wisconsin and Penn State, the two participants in the Big Ten Championship Game.

One of the biggest arguments against Michigan will be that they didn’t win their conference — in fact didn’t even make their conference championship game. That argument would be combated somewhat if they could claim two victories over conference champions.

There’s a small chance that Colorado could jump up ahead of Michigan with a win this week, but the head-to-head result should probably keep the Wolverines on top.
