Head coach Tom Izzo told reporters on Thursday that freshman Miles Bridges will miss “at least a couple weeks” due to an ankle injury.

Michigan State Spartans‘ freshman star Miles Bridges will miss “at least a couple weeks” of playing time with an ankle injury, according to head coach Tom Izzo on Thursday.

Bridges was on crutches at Michigan State’s Thursday practice and his left ankle was in a boot.

“I don’t know if he twisted it or what,” Izzo told reporters, “after the Duke game is when he said it started to bother him.”

Izzo also said Bridges will “rest (his ankle) at least a couple weeks,” adding that Bridges underwent “precautionary x-rays,” and while “there’s no broken bones or anything,” Bridges “is going to be out for a little bit.”

Bridges, a Flint, Mich. native and one of this season’s most highly-touted prospects, leads the Spartans in several categories, including minutes (32.5 per game), points (16.6), rebounds (8.8) and blocks (1.5, tied with Nick Ward) while also leading them in turnovers (3.4).

Bridges’ injury adds to the long list of injury concerns for the Spartans, especially amongst their big men. Izzo said on Thursday that he believes graduate transfer Ben Carter will not return this season and that senior Gavin Schilling may take a redshirt if he is not healthy soon. Both suffered knee injuries this off-season, Carter with his second ACL injury and Schilling a non-contact knee injury. Freshman Josh Langford has had some reported hamstring problems but is playing for the Spartans.

The Spartans are off to a disappointing 4-4 start that saw them lose all four of their matchups with ranked opponents and drop out of the top 25 at the end of a difficult November schedule.
