Playoff Implications Abound For Detroit Lions At New Orleans
News and Notes
Bryant activated, T.J. Jones signed, Forsett, Banks waived
The Lions made a few moves on Saturday ahead of their trip to New Orleans, activating defensive end Armonty Bryant from the exempt/commissioner permission list and signing wide receiver T.J. Jones from the practice squad.
Bryant—whose three-game suspension resulted from a 2015 drug incident—showed some ability to rush the passer after being signed by the Lions earlier this season, picking up three sacks and five tackles and forcing a fumble in four games for Detroit. Jones was signed to the practice squad after being cut at the end of the preseason. He caught 10 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown in 2015 after being drafted in the sixth round in 2014.
To make room for Bryant and Jones on the roster, the Lions cut running back Justin Forsett and cornerback Johnthan Banks.
Forsett, who started three games for the Baltimore Ravens before being cut by the earlier this season, was signed by the Lions to bolster the running back depth chart after some injuries at the position. He appeared in two games, picking up 38 yards on 13 carries and catching two passes for 15 yards before being inactive for the past several weeks.
Banks was acquired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a conditional 2018 seventh-round pick on Nov. 1. He appeared in two games for Detroit and made two tackles.
Lions lose Logan Thomas from practice squad
Logan Thomas, the former Virginia Tech quarterback and fourth-round pick, was signed by the Lions on Monday as a tight end, but quickly snapped up by the Buffalo Bills, who signed him to their 53-man roster the next day. Thomas had originally been recruited as a tight end before attending Virginia Tech and has size (6’6, 248) and athleticism (4.61 40-yard dash among other position-leading combine results) befitting the position.
The Lions released linebacker Nick Chubb from the practice squad to add Thomas, then re-added Chubb after Thomas was signed by Buffalo.
