Michigan State Basketball Defeats Youngstown State, 77-57
The Michigan State Spartans won comfortably over the Youngstown State Penguins at home on Tuesday, 77-57, without star freshman Miles Bridges.
The Michigan State Spartans won convincingly on Tuesday, winning their second straight game by downing the visiting Youngstown State Penguins, 77-57, without star freshman Miles Bridges, who is out with an ankle injury.

Youngstown State scored first, but the Spartans responded with a 13-0 run to take an early lead which they would not relinquish. A 10-0 run by the Penguins cut the lead to 19-14, but Michigan State held on to its lead, eight different Spartans scoring in the first half as they led 37-30 at halftime. Youngstown State missed its first nine three-point attempts and shot 11/33 (33.3%) from the floor in the first half while the Spartans shot 17/38 (44.7%).
Michigan State quickly built their lead into the double-digits in the second half and put the game away, a 9-0 run in the middle of the second half increasing the Spartans’ lead to 62-44. The Spartans shot 17/29 (58.6%) from the floor in the second half, including 5/10 (50%) from beyond the arc. They also out-rebounded the Penguins 24-12 in the second half and led by as many as 22 points as they cruised to a 77-57 win.
28 of Michigan State’s 34 field goals were assisted. Eleven different Spartans scored, four in double-digits, led by freshman Josh Langford, who scored a career-high 15 points. Eron Harris and Nick Ward each scored 13 and Matt McQuaid added 11. Former walk-on Matt Van Dyk led Michigan State in rebounds with nine. Freshman Cassius Winston led with nine assists and also scored eight points.
The Penguins, who were without leading scorer Cameron Morse, who was sidelined with a wrist injury, were led by Matt Donlan with 21 points. Francisco Santiago picked up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
