Detroit Lions: 10 Players Who Could Be Gone in 2017
By Zac Snyder
Don Muhlbach
When the Lions used a draft pick on long snapper Jimmy Landes last spring, many thought Don Muhlbach’s days as a Lion were numbered. The pick was made in the name of competition rather than straight up replacement, but it stood to figure that Muhlbach faced an uphill battle to keeping his job.
But keep his job he did and the Lions stashed Landes on injured reserve at final roster cut down time. By retaining his spot as the Lions’ long snapper, Muhlbach continued on as the longest tenured player currently on the roster and he moved into fourth place on the Lions all-time list for games played.
Muhlbach hasn’t been perfect this season but he obviously has plenty left to offer, but will it be with the Lions next season? Landes still looms and has to be seen as the heir aparent given that the Lions kept him around. Muhlbach is not signed beyond this season and while the Lions may give him an opportunity to return to fight for his job once again, he might be able to do better by finding a new team looking for someone to slide in to hold down their long snapper position.
