Rafael Bush

Bob Quinn showed he was serious about addressing depth issues when he signed Tavon Wilson and Rafael Bush and drafted Miles Killebrew to give the team a number of options at safety alongside Glover Quin. All three have proven to be shrewd additions in their own way, but don’t be surprised if Bush finds himself the odd man out after this season.

Wilson got a two-year contract and has outplayed Bush, who came to the Lions on a one-year deal. The development of Killebrew over the second half of the season suggests he will be ready for an increased role next season.

Add in the fact that the crop of safeties in the 2017 NFL Draft is expected to be one of, or perhaps the best in recent memory, and it’s easy to see Bush’s time in Detroit ending when his contract expires after the season.

By staying healthy this season, Bush should easily be able to latch on somewhere in the offseason after durability being a question mark in the past.
