Detroit Lions: 10 Players Who Could Be Gone in 2017
By Zac Snyder
Larry Warford
Once upon a time, Larry Warford looked like a sure candidate for a contract extension. He didn’t get one like some members of his draft class like Theo Riddick and Sam Martin, and other developments have put his Lions future in doubt.
The selection of Graham Glasgow in the third round last spring looked like a pick to put center Travis Swanson on notice. That may have been the case, but Swanson has been one of the Lions’ best offensive lineman this season and Glasgow has supplanted Laken Tomlinson as the starter at left guard. With center seemingly solidified, Glasgow’s future in Detroit now projects more at guard than at center, and that has ramifications for Warford.
Warford has been solid, if not spectacular, but it remains to be seen if the Lions are willing to pony up the money it will take to retain him give that their interior offensive line situation is much more stable now than it was at this time last season.
Bob Quinn could choose to let Warford walk and count toward compensatory pick consideration, while letting Laken Tomlinson and Joe Dahl compete at right guard in 2017.
