The Michigan State Spartans host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Saturday as they look to win their third straight game.

The Michigan State Spartans (6-4) will be at home again on Saturday as they host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (4-6).

After starting 1-5, Tennessee Tech has won three of their last four games. The Golden Eagles have played only one game against a power conference opponent, losing 70-55 to Georgia Tech in their opener.

More from Detroit Jock City

Aleksa Jugovic, a junior guard from Serbia, leads Tennessee Tech with 17.5 points per game. He the only Golden Eagle to average over 30 minutes per game, as ten players for Tennesee Tech average at least 14 minutes per game. They are not a particularly strong shooting team but have several players who are active on the glass, averaging 39.3 rebounds per game as a team, including 14.2 offensive boards.

Michigan State will once again be without freshman standout Miles Bridges, the team’s leader in points and rebounds, who is is out with an ankle injury. After a rough November and a near-upset against Oral Roberts to begin December, the Spartans appeared to right the ship on Tuesday in their 77-57 win over Youngstown State.

Michigan State’s other freshman look like they are preparing to lead the charge for the Spartans in Bridges’ absence. Freshman Josh Langford played his most productive game on Tuesday, scoring 15 points. Freshman Nick Ward leads all healthy Spartans with 6.2 rebounds per game and freshman Cassius Winston combines with junior Lourawls Nairn for over 10 assists per game from the point.

The Spartans boast a deep bench themselves, nine players averaging double-digit minutes and four players scoring in double-digits in Tuesday’s win. Over 72% of Michigan State’s field goals this season have been assisted, but turnovers are still a problem as the Spartans commit an average of 14.7 per game.
