The Detroit Red Wings got a much needed win on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks and now head to North Carolina to face the Hurricanes.

The Detroit Red Wings finally got a win on their five game home stand and it was a much needed win. With the Red Wings down 2-0 in the first, Steve Ott got into a fight that seemed to spark the Red Wings. After that fight the Red Wings outscored the Ducks 6-2. The Red Wings ended up winning 6-4.

Tomas Tatar finally found the back of the net as he got his first career hat trick. Dylan Larkin, Xavier Ouellet and Frans Nielsen added goals for the Red Wings. If this gets Tatar going that will be huge for this team. Tatar had only four goals so far this season and was really struggling.

This was a huge win for the Red Wings as they not only avoided getting swept at home on the home stand but also head to the road for 10 of the next 11 games.

With how bad the Red Wings have played, it’s amazing that they’re still in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Red Wings are seven points behind Ottawa for second and five behind Boston for third.

It’s very important for the Red Wings to survive this long stretch of road games. They can’t fall further behind the playoff chase.

Tonight the Red Wings look to get their horrid power play going. The Red Wings rank dead last in the NHL at a putrid 13 percent.

In the month of December, the Red Wings have gone 1 for 27 on the power play, and haven’t scored a power play goal since December 9th against the Blue Jackets.

The Red Wings hope tonight is the start of the turnaround for their power play. It won’t be easy as the Red Wings face the number one penalty killing team in the league.

The Hurricanes have played much better at home also so this will be a tough matchup for the Red Wings. Carolina has only lost three times at home since November 6th and are 9-3-1 at home this season.
