Detroit Red Wings vs. Buffalo Sabres: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings return to the ice tonight after a quick Christmas break. They face the slumping Buffalo Sabres at Joe Louis Arena tonight.
The Detroit Red Wings got a much needed win on Friday night as they beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 in a shootout. After being down 3-1 after two, Drew Miller scored a big goal just over a minute into the third. Frans Nielsen would score to tie the game late in the third. He would also score the winner in the shootout to give the Red Wings the win.
Believe it or not, the Red Wings are unbeaten in the shootout this season. This is a team that was awful in the shootouts the last several seasons. The last time they had a good record in the shootout was the 2011-12 season.
Unfortunately, the power play isn’t as good. In fact, the power play has been an absolute embarrassment for them. After going 0-for-5 against the Panthers, the Red Wings are now 1 for 37 on the power play in the month of December. They haven’t scored a power play goal on the road since October 19th.
Tonight, they face the struggling Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have lost four straight games and have a minus 20 goal differential.
The Sabres are also the only team below the Red Wings in the Atlantic Division. Ken Holland said he hopes the Red Wings hit the ground running tonight as he said the next 20-25 games are critical.
Beating the Sabres tonight would be a good start. No starter has been named as of this writing but Jared Coreau played well enough to make a second straight start.
