Richard Pitino’s Golden Gophers have a height advantage in the paint, with three players on the roster standing 6’10” or taller. Minnesota averages 41 boards per game, including 11 on the offensive glass.
Four different Golden Gophers average double-digit points, led by junior guard Nate Mason‘s 13.2 points and 5.5 assists per game.
Freshman Miles Bridges is “doubtful” for the Spartans, still dealing with an ankle injury. Junior guard Lourawls Nairn has also been injured, wearing a walking boot as a precaution due to “a little stiffness in his foot” according to head coach Tom Izzo. He has practiced all week and is expected to play on Tuesday.
In Bridges’ absence, the Spartans have leaned on solid performances from two of their other freshmen. Cassius Winston has averaged 11.8 points and nine assists in December and Nick Ward has averaged 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game since Bridges’ injury.
