Detroit Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings begin their West Coast trip tonight in Anaheim. The Red Wings are coming off a overtime loss to the Maple Leafs on Sunday.
The Detroit Red Wings lost a hard fought game to the Toronto Maple Leafs on New Years Day. In the Centennial Classic the Red Wings played well for the first two periods.
They got a goal from Anthony Mantha in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. That’s how the second period would end. Unfortunately, hockey has three periods. Just over a minute into the third the Maple Leafs would tie it. Seven minutes later the flood gates opened. The Maple Leafs would score three goals in just under four minutes to take a 4-1 lead.
Things looked bleak for the Red Wings late in the third but Jonathan Ericsson of all people got the Red Wings back in it. Dylan Larkin would make it a one goal game about four minutes later and then thanks to a frantic scramble in front of the Toronto net, Anthony Mantha tied the game with just two seconds left to force overtime. In overtime, Auston Matthews ended it on a beautiful shot as the Maple Leafs beat the Red Wings 5-4.
The Red Wings getting a point in this game almost feels like a win considering they were down three with seven minutes left in the game.
This was a fun game and it’s obvious both teams have a lot of young, exciting talent. Anthony Mantha was once again the best player on the ice for the Red Wings. It’s embarrassing that he wasn’t on the playoff roster last year.
For the sixth time this season the Red Wings lost a game they led in the third period. The third period has been the worst period for the Red Wings this year as they’ve been outscored 39-29. Once again, the Red Wings did not score a power play goal on the road. They haven’t scored a power play goal on the road since October 19th against the Rangers.
Tonight the Red Wings are in Anaheim to face the Ducks. The Ducks lost to Detroit last month 6-4 in a game that Petr Mrazek started. It’s unclear who will start tonight for the Red Wings in net. Jared Coreau has been really good and in my opinion has earned to have a couple starts on this road trip.
