Detroit Lions: Handing Out Awards for the 2016 Season
By Zac Snyder
Offensive Player of the Year: Matthew Stafford
Our second award makes it 2-for-2 in terms of easy award wins of Matthew Stafford. With a defensive player taking runner-up in the MVP vote, it comes as no surprise that Stafford’s margin of victory for Lions’ Offensive Player of the Year was even bigger than for team MVP.
Player | First | Second | Third | Points |
Matthew Stafford | 6 | 18 | ||
Taylor Decker | 3 | 2 | 8 | |
Theo Riddick | 2 | 4 | ||
Anquan Boldin | 2 | 2 | ||
Golden Tate | 1 | 2 | ||
Eric Ebron | 1 | 1 | ||
Travis Swanson | 1 | 1 |
Another unanimous decision for Stafford, with the second place vote split between Taylor Decker, Theo Riddick and Golden Tate. Decker being the only player besides Stafford on at least five ballots had him cruising to a runner-up finish.
After Stafford and Decker, it was a mixed bag of players getting votes with five others getting mentions but none seriously challenging Decker, much less Stafford.
Voting suggests that Riddick’s time missed late in the season made him somewhat of a forgotten man as he got second place votes from the two ballots he was named on but did not have any other mentions.
