The Detroit Red Wings look to rebound after losing in overtime on Friday to the Buffalo Sabres. They face the Rangers today at Joe Louis Arena.

The Detroit Red Wings three game winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Buffalo Sabres beat the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime. Frans Nielsen got the scoring started as he scored the only goal in the first. That goal was on the power play meaning the Red Wings have scored a power play goal in two straight road games!

Sam Reinhart would get the Sabres on the board in the second with their own power play goal. The game would be tied at one late in the third when Darren Helm scored to give the Red Wings the lead.

That lead lasted two minutes. Ryan O’Reilly would tie the game for the Sabres and once again the Red Wings blow a third period lead. Thankfully though, the Red Wings got a point as the game would go to overtime. Kyle Okposo won the game for the Sabres though with 26 seconds left in OT.

Today the Red Wings welcome the Rangers to the Joe and also should get back Niklas Kronwall. To make room for Kronwall the Red Wings have to send somebody down to the minors. As Helene St. James said, it very well could be Tomas Jurco. Jurco has struggled mightily in the last couple seasons and barely cracks the lineup.

Even though Petr Mrazek lost on Friday, Jeff Blashill thinks he’s on top of his game. That would bode well for the Red Wings if Mrazek has turned things around. The Red Wings need more consistent goaltending and hopefully Mrazek can help them with that. With the Red Wings only three points out of the Wild Card spot and five points out of third, every point is crucial for them.
