Despite a disappointing offseason for the Detroit Tigers, some are picking them to win the 2017 AL Central. Let’s explore 5 ways this could happen.

It’s been a boring offseason for Detroit Tigers fans. The seemingly imminent trades never materialized, except for the head-scratcher that sent Cameron Maybin away. Conversely, the only addition made by the club was to add the general manager’s son to the team. Thus, it’s understandable why the 2016-17 offseason has been met with a collective yawn in TigerTown.

Since we’re unaccustomed to an offseason without flashy additions, Tigers’ fans seem bearish on the team’s chances in 2017. However, a couple MLB Network analysts picked the Tigers, and not the defending AL champion Cleveland Indians, to win the AL Central.

Could national folk, who take a more objective look at our beloved baseball team, see something most of us don’t? After all, this is a team that barely missed the playoffs a season ago coming back largely intact.

From viewing this team last year, and knowing who’s their manager, it’s going to be an uphill battle. Yet, stranger things have happened.

With Kansas City and Chicago unloading talent, and Minnesota still rebuilding, this likely is a two-team race. It’s possible that everything goes right and the Detroit Tigers reclaim their throne at the top of the division after a two-year respite. It’s also a little more possible that everything goes right in Cleveland again.

For the Tigers to win the AL Central, many things have to go right. Let’s look at five factors that could crown the Tigers Kings of the Central.
