Turnovers Sink Michigan State In Blowout Loss To Michigan
The Michigan State Spartans suffered a huge blowout loss on Tuesday night courtesy of the Michigan Wolverines, 86-57 on the road.
The Michigan State Spartans (14-10, 6-5) took a thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines (15-9, 5-6) on Tuesday, losing 86-57 at the Crisler Center in a game which carried major NCAA tournament implications.
A 12-0 run gave Michigan a 35-19 lead late in the first half, part of a 32-10 run to end the first half which gave them a commanding 55-29 lead at the half, the largest offensive output for Michigan in a first half all season as well as the worst defensive performance by the Spartans in a first half this season.

Michigan State actually shot well in the first half, making 13 of 22 attempts (59%) from the floor, but committed 12 turnovers, which the Wolverines turned into 22 points. Michigan shot an outstanding 75% (21/28) in the first half, including eight of 11 (72.7%) from beyond the arc.
Michigan picked up right where they left off in the second half, increasing their lead to 30 points and keeping their foot on the Spartans’ neck for the entire half. While the Wolverines’ shooting cooled off in the second half (11/25, 44%), the Spartans never reduced the deficit beyond 21 points and Michigan rolled to an 86-57 romp.
Michigan State set a season high with 21 turnovers and gave up a season-high 30 points off turnovers. Miles Bridges led the Spartans with 15 points. Nick Ward had 13 points and led with seven rebounds. They shot 23/48 (47.9%) from the floor and 5/16 on three-point attempts (31.3%).
Michigan was the first team to shoot above 50% against Michigan State this season (32/53, 60.4%). Their margin of victory tied the largest for the Wolverines against a Tom Izzo-coached Michigan State team, matching a 75-46 win in 1996. Derrick Walton Jr. led Michigan with 20 points and eight rebounds. Moritz Wagner scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Michigan State will host Iowa on Saturday at 6:00 on Big Ten Network.
