The Detroit Red Wings kick off a three game road trip tonight as they face the Washington Capitals. The Red Wings are coming off a OT loss to Columbus.

The Detroit Red Wings head to our nation’s capital tonight to face the red hot Washington Capitals. The Capitals are the best team in the NHL while the Red Wings are at the bottom of the East.

Even though the Red Wings are at the bottom of the East, they’re only six points out of a playoff spot. The standings show that the NHL finally got the parity they’ve been looking for since the 2005 lockout.

The Capitals come into tonight’s game winners of four straight games. while the Red Wings lost a controversial game to the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. With the game in overtime, Henrik Zetterberg had his stick slashed out of his hands by Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky.

Instead of a penalty being called, as it should’ve been, no penalty was called and Seth Jones scored just moments later to win the game. Needless to say the Red Wings were pretty steamed after the game.

Tonight, the Red Wings look to beat the best team in the league and one of the hottest teams.

Last time these two teams met was back in November. The Capitals won 1-0 on a late 3rd period goal by Jay Beagle. If the Red Wings can hold them to a goal again, they will have a very good chance to win. The Red Wings don’t want to get into a shootout with them. The Capitals are one of the highest scoring teams in the league. Since January 1st, the Capitals have scored four goals or more in 14 of 19 games.

Either Petr Mrazek or Jared Coreau will have to be on their A game tonight if the Red Wings are to win. Here is all the important information for tonight’s game:
