Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings wrap up a three game road trip today in Minnesota as they face the Wild. The Red Wings have lost three straight games.
The Detroit Red Wings need to sell. Yesterday’s 2-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets proved it. The Red Wings actually played pretty good and they still lost.
I’ve been saying that the East has a lot of parity and technically the Red Wings are still in the playoff hunt.
Red Wings management can’t be fooled by that. It’s clear this team is closer to the bottom of the league than the top of the league.
As tough as it is for them and fans to admit it, the Red Wings must sell. The sooner they do, the sooner they can return to the Red Wings of old.
The Hockey News anticipates the Red Wings could be contenders again as soon as 2020 which is how long I believed it could take.
The next two to three years is going to be rough but it’s necessary for the Red Wings to get back to the top of the NHL.
The Red Wings have pieces to sell like Thomas Vanek, Mike Green and Brendan Smith. If the Red Wings can get anything useful for those players they need to pull the trigger.
It’s not like the cupboard is bare for this team. With Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou and Anthony Mantha are all 22 or younger.
Defense is the big problem for this team. Danny DeKeyser is the best defensemen on this team and that’s not saying much.
The Red Wings did have two defensemen in ESPN’s top 50 prospects ranking. Granted they were in the honorable mention section but it’s better than nothing.
Also the Red Wings need to stop having prospects spend years in Grand Rapids and stop relying on veteran players.
Today, the Red Wings will face the Minnesota Wild as they try to snap a three game losing streak. The Wild are the best team in the West and have one of the best home records in the league.
Jared Coreau most likely will get the start against the Wild today. This could be his last start with the Red Wings as Jimmy Howard is close to returning.
The Wild come into today’s game winners of eight of their last 11 games including a 2-1 shootout win against the Lightning on Friday.
