Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings travel to Pittsburgh today to face the Penguins. The Red Wings are coming off a 3-2 shootout win against the Capitals yesterday.
The Detroit Red Wings face the Pittsburgh Penguins today in Pittsburgh in their last road game before the bye week.
The Red Wings snapped a five game losing streak yesterday by beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in the shootout.
Frans Nielsen got the scoring started in the first period and Tomas Tatar added a goal in the second to make it 2-0 Red Wings.
As usual nothing is easy for the Red Wings this season. The Capitals would score late in the second and late in the third to force overtime.
Petr Mrazek made a couple of huge saves in the extra session to get to the shootout. The Red Wings would finally win the game there thanks to Henrik Zetterberg.
Zetterberg scored the winning goal in the shootout and Mrazek stopped Alex Ovechkin to clinch the victory for the Red Wings.
For as bad as the Red Wings have been this season, it’s pretty ironic that they’re 7-0 in the shootout after being so bad in the shootout the last two years.
Today they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is the last game in that rough two week stretch and sure enough this stretch has been a disaster.
The Red Wings have one win and one overtime loss during this stretch and they have fallen even further behind the playoff race.
Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start tonight as he has seemingly regained his confidence during this stretch.
Things won’t be easy today in Pittsburgh for the Red Wings. The Penguins have the best home record in the league and they have scored the most goals in the league.
The Penguins are led by the usual players: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel all of them have scored 20 goals or more this season.
The Red Wings don’t have anyone who has scored 20 goals this season… Andreas Athanasiou and Thomas Vanek lead the team with 14 goals.
Once again the Red Wings can’t get into a high scoring game with a team like the Penguins. Mrazek has to steal this game and the Red Wings have to get a couple lucky bounces today.
