The Detroit Red Wings play their final game before the bye week tonight against the Islanders. The Red Wings are looking for their third straight win.

The Detroit Red Wings head back to Joe Louis Arena tonight to face the New York Islanders. The Red Wings are coming off wins against the two best teams in the East over the weekend.

The victory against the Penguins was really impressive. The Red Wings led 2-1 after the first thanks to goals from Nick Jensen and Steve Ott.

Another impressive note from this game is that the Penguins never led. In the third period the Red Wings got goals from Tomas Tatar and Thomas Vanek two minutes apart to put the game out of reach.

Luke Glendening would add a empty netter to make it a 5-2 Red Wings win. Henrik Zetterberg said the Red Wings aren’t giving up.

Now to pour cold water on the Red Wings good weekend. Even though they’ve won two straight games the Red Wings are still last in the Atlantic and eight points out of a playoff spot. Last year, 93 points was needed for a playoff spot. Let’s assume that 93-95 points is needed for a playoff spot this year. For the Red Wings to get to 94 points they would have to win 18 of their final 23 games. Needless to say, we shouldn’t be expecting a playoff appearance.

Tonight, the Red Wings look to sweep the season series with the Islanders. Goals haven’t been hard to come by for the Red Wings against the Islanders.

In the first game, the Red Wings scored four goals and in the second game they scored five goals. Petr Mrazek started both of those games and I fully expect him to start tonight as well. Mrazek has turned it around and that could be very helpful for the Red Wings in their fading playoff hopes.

Mike Green is expected to return tonight as he was out the last two games due to a stomach virus.

This is the last game before the bye week for the Red Wings and one of the final two games before the trade deadline. Here is all the important information for tonight’s game.
