NFL Draft 2017: Detroit Lions Seven-Round Mock Draft
By Zac Snyder
Third Round
I know a lot of Lions fans would be just fine to use the entire draft on just defense but that ignores there are some legitimate needs to be filled on offense. How big of a need a running back is can be up for debate, but Kareem Hunt is an extremely interesting prospect.
He’s a bigger back than what the Lions currently have atop their running back rotation, but not so big and plodding that the offense would change dramatically with him in the lineup instead of Ameer Abdullah or Theo Riddick.
Hunt doesn’t have their level of wiggle and isn’t quite as good of a pass catcher, but he can do all those things adequately while offering just enough of a change of pace as a guy a couple inches taller and a few pounds heavier than Abdullah.
Hunt’s best trait is his freakish ball security. He fumbled just once in college, and he recovered it himself. That would make him a nice addition to the Lions’ running back stable given ball security has been a knock against Abudallah and Dwayne Washington, who may or may not have a role with the team next season.
