Fifth Round

North Carolina State safety Josh Jones is a name to watch during Combine week and someone Tony Pauline thinks people are sleeping on now but that could change. Pauline recently noted that they have him rated as a third-rounder on DraftAnalyst.com, so being able to grab him in the firth round in this mock could be a nice value play.

The Lions have Tavon Wilson under contract for another year and drafted Miles Killebrew last year but don’t have any great free safety options behind Glover Quin. Quin has been an underappreciated contributor to the Lions defense but his contract is also up after the 2017 season.

Whether planning for life after Quin or just getting quality depth in place behind him, the Lions enter another offseason with a need at safety. If it’s not Jones, there will be a number of other options as this safety class is regarded as fairly deep.
