Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Rangers: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings welcome the New York Rangers to the Joe for the final time. The Red Wings are coming off a 4-2 win against the Hawks on Friday.
The Detroit Red Wings welcomed back Jimmy Howard on Friday night against the Chicago Blackhawks and he played very well.
The Red Wings gave up the first goal of the game in the opening five minutes of the game. That has been the story of the season for this team.
Unlike most games though, the Red Wings ended up winning on Friday. The Red Wings got two late goals and led 2-1 after the first.
The Red Wings wouldn’t trail again as Tomas Tatar scored the final two goals for the Red Wings and they would go on to win 4-2.
The day started badly as Jeff Blashill made Anthony Mantha a healthy scratch for the game. But Riley Sheahan is continuously in the lineup when he hasn’t scored at all this season and is playing important minutes late in games. Mantha handled the scratch very well though and I admire him for that but I’m of the belief that young players only get better by playing, not by sitting.
Mantha, Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou are this teams future, those three need to be in the lineup every single game. Jeff Blashill may scratch Mantha for the second straight game tonight which is a reason why, in my opinion, this team is in the shape it’s in. Players like Sheahan continue to play big minutes in important games while the future stars of this team get little playing time or are healthy scratches.
Tonight, the Red Wings welcome Brendan Smith back to the Joe. Smith makes his first appearance to the Joe as a New York Ranger. The Rangers and Red Wings have played each other very tough the last couple of years. Since 2014 only one game out of the last 11 has been decided by more than one goal.
This season has been no different as the teams have split the two games this season with the road team winning both games. The Red Wings won’t have to face Henrik Lundqvist tonight as he’s out for two weeks with a hip injury. Petr Mrazek will start for the Red Wings.
