The Michigan basketball team will face Wisconsin for the Big Ten Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines entered the tournament as the eight seed while Wisconsin came in as the two seed.
Michigan outlasted Minnesota 84-77 in a game they led most of the way. Up by as many as 16 points in the first half, the Wolverines allowed Minnesota to claw back into the game in the second half. The Gophers managed to tie the game at 55 but never could take the lead. The play of Derrick Walton Jr. (29 points) carried the Wolverines down the stretch.
Wisconsin reached the championship round thanks to a 76-48 rout of Northwestern on Saturday. Nigel Hayes led all scorers with 18 points in the Badgers’ winning effort.
The Wolverines and Badgers are both projected to be No. 6 seeds in the NCAA Tournament in the latest ESPN bracketology update. CBS Sports also has Wisconsin as a projected No. 6 seed although they still had Michigan as a No. 7 as of Saturday night.
Both teams are safely in the field with no fear of missing out.
