The ninth-seeded Michigan State Spartans will take on the eighth-seeded Miami Hurricanes in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Tulsa, Okla.

The #9 Michigan State Spartans (19-14) face the #8 Miami Hurricanes in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night in Tulsa, Okla.

The Hurricanes have lost three of their last four games but defeated both Duke and Virginia in February before finishing seventh in a stacked ACC.

Miami plays some of the best defense in the country, but only score 69 points per game, led by Devon Smith‘s 15 per game, and give up an average of 13 turnovers.

Michigan State had an up-and-down season, led by freshmen Miles Bridges and Nick Ward. Bridges averages 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds while Ward scores 13.7 and grabs 6.5 rebounds.

The Spartans lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Big Ten quarterfinals last week and will look to advance to the second round for the first time in two seasons after losing to Middle Tennessee State in the first round as a two-seed in 2016. This is Michigan State’s 20th consecutive tournament appearance under Tom Izzo.
