The Detroit Red Wings return home tonight to face the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Red Wings are coming off a 2-1 overtime win against Montreal on Tuesday.
The Detroit Red Wings face the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in hopes of playing spoiler. The Red Wings are nearing elimination but the Lightning still have playoff hopes. The Lightning are three points out of a playoff spot and they have a game in hand.
The Red Wings, meanwhile, are coming off a thrilling overtime win against the Canadiens. Jimmy Howard got the start and was the best player on the ice for that game.
Anthony Mantha ended his scoring slump in overtime as he scored the winner. Jimmy Howard though was the star of the game. He stopped 35 of the Canadiens 36 shots.
Howard right now might be playing the best hockey of his career since he came back from his injury. Also he was arguably their best player when he got hurt back in December. It has to make you wonder if he was healthy all year how different things would be for this team.
Despite how good Howard has been though, he will not start tonight. Petr Mrazek will start in what is the first game of a four games in five night stretch.
The Lightning are coming off a win last night in Boston. The Red Wings are coming into tonight’s game winners of three of their last four.
