Detroit Lions Draft 2017: A Defensive End for Every Round
By Zac Snyder
Round 6
Apparently leading the PAC-12 in sacks isn’t enough to get an NFL Combine invite because Utah’s Hunter Dimick was a snub after tallying 14.5 sacks last season.
That left Dimick with the Utah Pro Day as his chance to wow scouts outside of any pre-draft individual workouts and he didn’t disappoint. NFLDraftScout.com’s Rob Rang with some of the details:
"While his arms might be shorter than ideal, they certainly are powerful, as Dimick recorded 38 reps on the bench press Thursday, three more than Asiata’s combine-best 35 a few weeks ago. Dimick also proved quicker than expected in the 40-yard dash, registering a time in the low 4.7s, according to a source on the scene. Despite the fact that he was not invited to the combine, Dimick currently ranks 19th among defensive ends and a solid Day 3 value."
At some point concerns over arm length or some other physical limitation have to give way to value in grabbing a player with a history of production and just seeing what happens.
