Round 4

On talent alone, Mixon is in the conversation as early as the first round. However, Mixon’s situation is about much more than his talent after an ugly 2014 incident in which he punched out a woman, resulting in a broken jaw, eye socket and cheekbone.

The MMQB’s Albert Breer recently gave an update on Joe Mixon now that he has started meeting with teams and it is sounding likely that Mixon will get drafted. Not only that, he could be a day two pick. Daniel Jeremiah echoes that, saying he’s not only hearing day two, but round two.

If that’s the case and Mixon isn’t available in round four on Saturday, that’s fine. Another team can take him on for an offseason of public relations activity.

Some will take him off their draft board entirely, and that’s fine too. But for those teams that are satisfied after talking to Mixon and those close to him, at some point risk and reward meet. For me, I wouldn’t bank this draft on him, but I’d be taking a hard look by the start of day three if he was still available.
